Both rivers have sections with different rapid levels, tailored to the chosen difficulty. Additionally, both are regulated by hydroelectric dams, causing the water level to fluctuate throughout the day based on energy production.
The rapids on the Balsa River are more stable and easier for the guide to control, making it an accessible option for all levels. The guide can adjust the intensity based on participants' skills and reactions. On this river, we offer rafting levels III & IV, and II & III.
On the other hand, the Sarapiquí River only has class IV rapids, making it more suitable for adults in good physical condition, as it requires more effort to paddle due to the river's gradient and obstacles. This section is the most challenging and is not recommended for seniors, children, or those with mobility issues or overweight.
The Sarapiquí River is quite extreme for rafting, especially in its class IV rapids. It has strong currents, a steep gradient, and natural obstacles, making it suitable only for adults in good physical condition. It is not recommended for seniors, children, or those with limited mobility or overweight. It is a challenging option for those seeking an intense experience.
The Balsa River is considered moderate in terms of difficulty for rafting. Its rapids, which generally range from class II to class IV, are fairly predictable and easier to manage compared to more challenging rivers like the Sarapiquí. This makes it suitable for a wide variety of people, including beginners and families. Although there are some sections with intense rapids, the conditions are generally stable, and the guide can adjust the experience according to the participants' skills. It is an ideal option for those seeking a moderate and safe challenge.
